“University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa public health researchers are collecting data from outrigger canoe paddlers to determine the activity’s metabolic equivalents (METs), which show how many calories or energy expenditure a person burns when engaged in a physical activity.
A total of 60 participants, including competitive and recreational paddlers with and without a spinal cord injury, were part of the AccessMETs pilot study. Data collection events were held to measure their METs on three days between March 7 through March 10, 2024 at Mauliola Keʻehi (Sand Island Boat Ramp).”
